The manager of the Waihi Reefs-Gigantic Consolidation, Ltd., reporting on operations at the mine for the week ending March 20, says:—The contractor for crosscuts at the 1000 feet level has advanced the work in North End 10 feet and S.E. 14 feet, total for week 24 feet, making the distance driven north from the shaft 297 feet and S.E. 215 feet. In the north face the country is exceedingly hard to drill, making progress slow. We havo penetrated this hard rock some 20 feet, and thero are now indications of a changc; a slight flow of water is noticeable as the face Is drilled, and I quite hope to meet with quartz when this belt is pierced. In tho south face the country being penetrated ig a firm andesite, favourable for the existence of reefs. The exceptionally heavy rainfall of late has caused in the mine a slight increase of water, but machinery is coping with game at moderate speed.
