MR. PRIMROSE M'CONNELL FAREWELLED

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Hamilton, March 31. A great demonstration took place at the Ruakura Farm of Instruction today to farewell Mr. Primrose M'Connell, the manager. Farmers from all parts of the province were present, and the gathering took the form of a picnic. officers of the "farm placing their services at the disposal of the visitors, who spent a profitable day viewing the experimental plots. Mr. M'Coimell was presented with a purse of sovereigns and an illuminated address, expressive of appreciation of his services to the agricultural community of tlie Dominion in the cause of agricultural science. Mr. M'Comicll, in his reply, made a strong indictment of the Civil Service Commission, whose operations, he said, had killed individualism, hampered progress, and opposed the interests of science. Good prices continue to be secured by New Zealand farmers for wool sold_ at tho Londou wool sales, says the "New Zealand Herald." Advice has just been received to the effect that 11 bales of wool shipped to London by Mr. A. D. Bell, of Clevedon, through the Auckland Farmers' Union, realised Is. 3Jd. per lb.—tbe top price at the sale at which it was offered. At another sale Mr. R. E. Beckett, of Mnrton secured Is. 55-d. per lb. for his 69 bales of Romnoy cross wool. : One who has just been through Central Otago informs the "Otago Daily | Times" that he has never seen the Cen. tral district look better at this time of the year than it docs at present. The fine rains that fell recently have improved tbe pasturage wonderfully, and the driest ridges have rough feed coming for winter. There are some good crops, and several nice lots of wheat in-stack and in Stock, as far as ho could see from'the train, was in good condition. There may not be a great deal of sentiment in business, but thero must lie honesty.
