NOTES AND COMMENTS

TBT GLENCOE.I Local Tacegoers will be catered for at Tauher'inikau on Saturday, _ when the Autumn Meeting of the u'airarapa Racing Club will bo commenced. Special trains will leave Lambton Station at G.dO a.m. and 8.30 a.m. At the last moment J. H. Prosser decided to take Naupata to tho Eiccarton Meeting. The Mahaki gelding is within a stoue of Daylight Bill, and it will be a surprise if he can defeat tho grey gelding over two miles at those weights. Land of Song, the imported Irish Derby winner, who cost Mr. N. Falkiner 4000 guineas, has been _ ehowing signs of lameness lately, and is regarded as a doubtful starter at Eandwick. This is bad luck for his new owner, as the horse showed a lot of promise, and bid fair to roach the top of the weight-for-age class in Australia. Though he won the St. George's Stakes at Caulfield and the itesendon Stakes at Flemington, liis owner is still a big sum behind on his purchase. Accounts from Ellorslio credit Mullinrar with being back to his best form, and he is sure to have plenty of supporters in tho Easter Handicap on Saturday. The three-year-old is not by any means well handicapped, and he will . want to strip right at his best to have a chanco of defeating -Downham and Co. Consequent upon her poor form in the Eawson States, Traquetto has receded from tho position of- favourite for the Doncaster Handicap to be run on Saturday, and AVoorak, who generally races well on the Eandwick tracks, now occupies that position. Traquette has a'Tory big weight (9st. 91b.), but it is hardly {air to condemn her for one /ailure. It should be remembered that in the Eawson Stakes she was having her first race on a right-handed track, having just previously arrived from Flemington, where tho going is left-handed. The New Zealand-owned Toa Tere is nominated for all the short races at the Kandwick Meeting which opens on Saturday. Sinapis is again in work, and is now jul inmate of J. Scott's Trentham stables.' A. J. M'Flinn will be on Black Northern in tho Brighton Hurdles at Ellerslie. M'Flinn to be the only rider able to get tho best out of tho Salvaden gelding. , Track-watchers at Eiccarton ars most enthusiastic about the doings of Daytime and the two-year-old Marc Antony on the tracks. The latter is by Varco from Valodia, and is spoken of as a very, fast colt, Three yearling colts, and a two-year-old belonging to "Mr. Highden" were operated on at Awapuni. this week. During an ope-ation at Awapuni this week, Pariform was found to be ruptured, and at latest advices lie w&s in a bad way. This would account for tho poor showing of tho Boniform colt early this soason. Private advices from Sydney state that Bercola is going on well in his work, and should be prominent in his engagements next week. The well-watered tracks in New South Wales, suit the Grand National winner quite as well as those ut Hawora. First Flight, who ias been on the retired list for about threo monthß, has been taken up again, and is being hacked preparatory to going into regular commission. The spell appears to have benotited him, as ho is in good condition, ivhilo his joints look much bettor after the rest. It is unlikely that ho will bo raced before next season. Banksia has been galloping in an attractive manner lately. She is fancied in some quarters for tho Great Autumn Handicap, and even should that race prove beyond her ability she should do her owuer further service before tho end of tho autumn campaign. D. Eoberts, who is retiring from the position of private trainer to Mr. H. T. ICnight, was formerly a successful rider over fences, and won many races in Mr. Knight's colours.
