LOCAL ELECTIONS

: SOME OF THE CANDIDATES. The present members of the City Council who will not be candidates at Ihe election to be held on April 28 will be Councillors R. Fletcher (who will contest the Mayoralty), H. Buddie, T. C. A. Hislop (with the forces at Trentham), E. Tregear, and A. H. Hindmarsh. Among those who have so far declared their intention of standing—other than the already announced Labour ticket— ar© ; Messrs. A. Veitch (formerly of Veitch and Allan), Mr. Thomas Bush (of the Union Clothing Company directorate), Mr.) C. B. Norwood (managing director of: the Dominion Motor Vehicles and president of the Wellington Provincial Industrial Association), Mr. Robert Hall (flour merchant), and. Mr. W. H. Bennett (building contractor). The Greater Wellington- Municipal Electors' Association is holding meetings in connection with the coming elections, and the body's nominees for the City Council and. Harbour Board may be mado _ known during the ensuing week. It is understood that neither' Mr. nor Mrs. David M'Laren will stand for the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board this month. So far:the' secretary of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board has not received Dr. F. Wallace Mackenzie's written resignation from tho board. A verbal one such as w r as made by Dr. Mackenzio At Monday's meeting has no effect in law. In any case the general election is to be held at the end of the month, so it will not be necessary to fill tho vacancy, if the written resignation is received. It is understood that Mr. A. H. Hindmarsh will be a candidate for the chairmanship of the Wellington Harbour Board. Mr. J. W. Henderson, at present a member of the Karori Borough Council, will bo a candidate for the Mayoralty of the borough tljis month. From present indications there is not likely to be any contests for the Mayoralties of the Lower Hutt, Pet-one. Eastborne, Miramar, or Onslow. If this happens it will constitute a record in local municipal politics. •
