Customs duty collccted at tho port nl Wellington yesterday amounted to £2549 ICS. -Id. , THB WHEAT AND OAT YIELD. (By Telcgraph.-Press Association.) Ghrlstchurch, March 50. Amended estimates of the yields of fliis cate in tla Dominion

upon a portion of tho threshing returns from areas of not less than 100 acres or either cereal show that tho preliminarv estimates have generally been exceeded. The Canterbury averages for wheat have been increased by about five bushels to the acre, bringing the general average for this provjnee to a little over 30 bushels per acre. Wellington returns are generally higher than the preliminary estimate, but Nelson and Marlborough crops have not come up to expectations. The oat crops are all turning out better than the preliminary estimate, and the final average for the Dominion should be several bushels in excess of the 35.65 bushels first set. down. At 40 bushel 6 the crop would give 11,500,000 bushels, which would still be one and a half million bushels below tho estimated requirements. Tho export of oats from the Dominion during January and February of this year was 160,335 bushels. The local wheat maTket is still showing a declining tendency. Buyers are indifferent about operating, and sellers aro now finding a difficulty in effecting sales of Tuscan and Hunters at 65. 6d. at country stations. The appended estimate, showing a larger yield than wa6 first considered probable, has had some effect in steadying the market. There is no change to note in the oats market, business at present being practically at a standstill, as the prohibition of the export has brought about a new condition to which the market has not yet adjusted itself. Oatsheaf chaff is somewhat easier, in sympathy with the oats market. There is no change in potatoes, but onions are easier owing to the large supplies, and the price is now £2 ss. to £2 10s. at country stations. LONDON WOOL SALES. i PRICES UNCHANGED.
