TEACHERS GONE TO THE AVAR. The war deeply affected the social and professional life of the AVcllington Training College. "While it undoubtedly interfered seriously with our conventional course of studies" (says the principal in his annual report), "I feel that we gained much in the inore lively appreciation of our national responsibilities. I am very proud to say that every man in the College did something in the way of military service. Many of the women volunteered to relieve teachers called to serve at the front, while all did what they could for the various relief funds and the providing of soldiers' comforts. "Messrs. Bennett, Barnard, Jones, Larsen, M'Caw, Yeats, Adlam, Quigley, and Young volunteered for the Sainoan Force. "Messrs. Mills _ Dudson, Pallant, Tattle, and AVebb joined the Main Expeditionary Force. "Messrs. Morris, Hostick, Stainton, and Matheson volunteered for the Reinforcements. "Messrs. Edwards, Johns, Butler, Evans', Boots, Riley, Linelian, Kirk, and Carson undertook local military duty of seme description. "Messrs. Smith, Rudkin. Isaac, and Ross and Jlisses Beetham, Boyd, Crabb, Edwards, Hare, M'Auliffc, Prichard, and AVallace left the College to relieve teachers who had volunteered for the front."
