QUEENSLAND'S EXPERIMENTS WITH THE BLOWFLY

——♦ Tho first year's operations with the experimental lock of sheep purchased by the Queensland Government have just been completed, and the sheep have been shorn preparatory to a second year's trial. It was discovered that out of 1178 sheep, including the lambs, only five were suffering from flies, and four of these were lambs. .The period iinmediatelv preceding had been dry and hot. It is not suggested tliat the dips used on the sheep in the second month after shearing had retained their effects for so long a period. At the same time the value of dips as a palliative was illustrated by the fact that at Hio time the Hies were bad, wherea6 only 18 per cent, of the dipped sheep had been struck, 53 per cent, of tli« undipped sheep were very badly affectud, some of them as far as tho shoulder. • Moreover, the recent shearing showed that the dips had improved tho condition of the wool, that from flipped sheep much cleaner nnd lighter. X new scries of experiments is to bo adopted, and in this case trials will bo made with more than one dippingsay, at two months, and again at sis months.
