Having arrived in the 6trea,m at Wellington late on Thursday, evening, the Union Company's Maitai berthed at the Queen's Wharf yesterday morning. According to an official report of the journey the vessel left San Francieoo on March 3, arriving at Papeote at 11 a.m. on.'March 15. From Papeete Bhe went on to -llarbtonga, arriving there three days later, and after a twelve-hour stay, Bailed fw Wellington Fine weather with light variable winds was experienced until Barotonpa was left, a strong north-west gale with high seas being then encountered. These conditions tasted for two days, when the wind veered to tho south-west. Moderate weather continued till arrival here.. The voyage throughout waß comparatively uneventful. Included in the cargo brought down by the Maitai were: —420 oasfes tinned fruit, 0760 packages dried fruit, 320 cases fruit, 75 ton.: of automobile material, 50 cases chemicals, 25 tons flour, 112 crates sewing machines, 3105 cases bananas, 1274 oases oranges, and 2812 sacks copra. An .arrival at Auckland from New York, via Panama Ganal, at 6.55 a.m. yesterday, was the C. 'and.D. liner Star of India. It is expected that the liner will arrive at Wellington about' Tuesday next.
