(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Ohrlstohurch, March 26. At a, meeting of the council of the New Zealand Swimming Association the chairman's ruling that 0. Welson, of Auckland, was an amateur, was upneld. Canterbury entered a ■ protest against Welson at the recent championship meeting at Napier, on' the ground that he was a professional after is reinstatement by the council. Welson thereafter competed under protest. The ruling was given, in response to an urgent application from Auckland for the council's decision in the matter, and Welson thereupon competed at the subsequent Kahanamoku carnivals. The council unanimously endorsed his action.
