RANGITIKEI MEETING CUP WON BY LADY MOUTOA. (From Our Special Correspondent.) Bulls, March 24. The first day of the E&ngitikei races was held in o>ld weather. The attendance wa« fair. Toe amount put through tho totalieator vas .£11,559, against .£12,708 last year, adcrease of 4:1149. There were only three'runners in the Scott Memorial Hack Handicap. Goldctream was withdrawn as his owner was dissatisfied with fcis handicap, and Simple Sam was also withdrawn on account of the weigtt. Iwkru, Te Hou Hou, and Improve /were supported in that order, and thii was the order at the finish, though the race caused a lot of excitement, and it was only in the last stride that Iheuru supplanted Te Hou Hou, who had led all the way. Improve finished on their, quarters. There was a big field in the Trial Plate, and the horses that drew No. 1 and 2 at the barrier were first and second, though the winner, Tiora, lost her position and had to go right round the field. At the start Iceberg and E-angey wore prominent, with the others strung out. At the entrance to tho straight Black Ada came fast, but Tiora cut "herdown, and going on caught and beat Iceberg on the post. Black Ada ra a length away, and then came Indrabarali and Namur. The winner is one of S. Breton' 6 Waverley team. He has been racing a long time without success.

Naupata and The Diver were scratched for the Hack Hurdles, leaving seven runners. At the jump away Moutoa Girl TO shed off in front, while Agatha Green was tailed off. Kound the first bend Katna was lying second, but he joined the Foston mare at the stand, and the pair led Lady Strowan and Captain Macky. At the half-mile the quartet bunched, and the finish-promised to be good. Captain Macky was first at the last fence, but he had a vigorous challenge from Katua, who finished a length away. Lady Strowan .was close up, and then came Jackman, who was running on well. Chief Officer ran off at the second fence.

Janita and Mali] stick were withdrawn ■from the Carnarvon Hack I?ace. Fore was a good favourite, and drew No. 1 position, but any chance she had was spoilt by her fretting left a couple of lengths at the barrier. At the start Bivouac led from ■Maxtyress and Vladineau. The Porlrua mare was first into the straight, but had to be ridden right out to head Vladineau. Bivouac was two lengths away, and then came New York, Tangihou, and Fore together. Draft was-left standing at the post. Blue Thread fell, but her rider escaped unhurt. Master Lupin was withdrawn from th« Hangitikei Cup, for which Ararat and Sir 'Alba were the best backed. At the start Lady Moutoa took charge and led throughout. Passing the mile post, Byron, Ararat and Square Deal were her nearest attendants with Sir Alba tailed off. Hounding the home bend, Imarosa and Square Deal •became prominent behind the leaders. In the run home Byron threw out a strong challenge, but Lady Moutoa , assisted . by her light weight, stayed on well and won by half a length. Sir Alba, came veiry fast, end got third place, followed by-Squar# Deal, Imarose, and Ararat in that order. Sylvan Dale carried most support in the 'Pukenui Hack Welter, but after haYing every chance she was beaten into third place by His Eminence and Raupara. Master Moutoa, Vladian, and Waitomo were the next to finish. Master Moutoa got rid of Deeley in the preliminary; but he was unhurt, and Son threw Jenkins, who was shaken, and C. Brice took the mount.

Only four horses lined up for the Open Welter. Austin was made a pronounced favourite,-and after a good race he defeated Ratana by half a length. Fore was' two lengths away, and Sweet Van was tailed off. King Chiara, with Deeley in the saddle, and No. 1 at the baTrier, was backed down to a short price in the Ngatiapa Hack Handicap. Tyson, on the outside, began smartest, and soon had a big break on the field. Hushabye ran up to him halfway down the straight, but Tyson finished well, and won by a neck. The favourite oame from a long way back and got third place, a neck in front of Martingale. 3ESULTS. The results are:— gCOTT MEMORIAL HANDICAP. Six furlonga. 1 Ineuru, Bst. 101b. ...: (L.
