EXCESSIVE PROFITS ON WAR CONTRACTS
QUESTION OF LIMITATION DISCUSSED. (Rec. March 24, 5.25 p.m.) London, March 23. City men are discussing the prospect of the Government limiting profits on war contracts. It is pointed' out that there will bo difficulty in carrying out the suggestion of labour that- all profits in excess of ten per cent, should go to the State. "While patriotic employers are ready to adopt the principle that they wiil not make extravagant profits,, it would be difficult to formulate a cut and dried scheme. Many of the Army contractors have laid out now capital in enlarging' their works iii order to carry out their abnormal orders, and there will thus bo a loss after the war unless a sinking fund is established for the redemption of the emergency capital expenditure.— "Times" and •Sydney "Sun" services.
