WATCH ON INTERNED STEAMERS
RECENT ATTEMPT AT ESCAPE (Rec. March 24, 8.40 p.m.) Washington, March 23. iho United States Government liae ordered tho dispatcli of destroyers and tlio cruiser Algonquin to prevent any attempts of interned German steamers toescape from San Juan, Porto ltico. Tho authorities have been informed that the interned steamers Oldenburg and President were planning an escape —the former was recently recaptured while attempting to leave. The Porto Rican authorities have begun confiscation proceedings fcr this breach of neutrality. [The previous message referred to the Oldenburg as a Hamburg-Amerika boat. There are five steamers of that name on Lloyd's List, but noue of these are mentioned as belonging to the Ham-burg-Amerika'fleet, though four of them ore German, There are four "Presidents" in Lloyd's List, but three of these are British and the fourth is American.] AN ESCAPE DENIED. pßcc.
