MISSIONARY MEETING
THE REV. DR. G. BROWN. Tile Rev. Dr. George Brown, the veteran missionary, who lias spent practically all his adult life in missionary work in the islands of the Western Pacific, delivered another of a series of lectures in Wesley Church, Taranaki Stieet, last night. Dr. Brown has had probably more experience than any other white man of life in these islands, and in his lecture he draws always upon his rich store of knowledge to make his story one of absorbing interest. At his meeting last night, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided. Dr. Brown is making a tour of New Zealand to give effect to a wish expressed by the last conference of the Methodist Church held in Christchurch a few weeks ago. At present the New Zealand Methodist Church, although it was lately separated for the purposes of administration from the Australian Methodist Churcli, is (.till united with the parent church in tho Commonwealth for the purposes of foreign missions. It is expected, however, that the New Zealand Methodist Church will shortly be assigned a special territory or territories for which it will be made responsible, and Dr. Brown's mission in New Zealahd ia to assist in the establishment of a reserve fund in Now Zealand to pay for the first year's operation of the new scheme.. To this fund all the proceeds of his lectures go. Dr. Brown will continue his lectures in other centres in the North Islaitd.
