Li the Police Court a stevedore named Thomas Henderson was charged ivith unshipping a set of black furs and other articles of attire from ships in Dunedin Harbour when an entry liad not been made and passed, or a permit granted. Defendant. told a lady in a restaurant he frequented that he could get her a hat. Eventually she went to the wharf • and defendant obtained from. a ship over which he had control furs, a blouse, and a hat. He told the police that he purchased them from a steivard. In Court he pleaded guilty._ The Magistrate said a person obtaining goods was a party to fraud : against the Customs. The Court inflicted the minimum penalty of £25.
