MAJOR HERBERT SELECTED

It has already been announced that Major Peacock, officer commandiug the Maori Contingent, was put ashore tick fit the first port at which the troopship called. Major A. H. Herbert, of the 9th Wellington. East Coast Mounted Mi ties Regiment, who sailed for Egypt with the 3rd Reinforcements, has been solected to replace Major Peacopk in command of the Maoris. Major Herbert is a very well-known resident of Eketahuna. In 1911 he stood as a candidate for the Masterton 6©at, and when defeated at the first ballot he supported the candidature of Mr. G. R. Sykea, who won the seat at that election, and again at last election.
