SINKING THE DRESDEN
WAS SHE IN TERRITORIAL WATERS? (Sec. March 21, 5.55 p.m.) London, March 20. Wounded German officers who have reached. Valparaiso alleged that the Dresden was anchored four hundred metres (434 yards) from the shore when the British cruisers opened fire. The Germans signalled their protest against the violation of Chilian waters, and when the British persisted the crew fled inland, leaving the commander and a few men to blow up the magazines.— "Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services. THE KARLSRUHE. HER. LOSS CONFIRMED. . ' The High Commissioner reports: — The Admiralty announces there is every reason to believe that the German cruiser Karlsruhe sunk in the neighbourhood o fthe West Indies at the beginning of November, and those of the. crew rescued _reached _ Germany early in December in the Rio Grande, 4556 tons, belonging to the HamburgSouth Ajnerica Steamship Company, which had been acting in concert with the Karlsruhe.
