BOWLS

WELLINGTON CLUB WINS PENNANT CHAMPION PAIRS FINAL. The Wellington. Club's green was the centre of interest in the local bowling world. Not only was there a welcome invasion from the south in the four rinks from the Christchurch Club, which succeeded in winning "the friendly bowl" after a real good afternoon's fun, but there were the final Pennant games between Wellington and Petone (three rinks on the greens of each club), and the filial of the Wellington Centre's Championship Pairs. The match of primary interest to local bowlers was the final for the Pennant. It will be remembered that on Saturday last Petone beat Wellington by a, single point, and 60 brought about a tie (one Wss each) between the two clubs, ' This was settled on Saturday afternoon, when the Wellington Club succeeded in winning by a majority of 14 points. On this occasion Wellington was four up on its own green, and ten tip at Petone. The result of this game means that Wellington (the holders) retain the much-coveted Pennant for another year. The scores were as follow:—

A good deal of interest was taken in the final game between Hataitai (Mitchell and Laurenson) and Victoria (Bolton and Snaddon) on Saturday afternoon. The fact was borne in on spectators that Laurenson is one of Wellington finest uphill players, and one who is never beaten whilst there is a bowl to roll, pis lead Mitchell did not play up to his usual good form, and was beaten on the average pretty badly by Bolton, Who was drawing magnetically.' There was little to choose between tne 6kips on the day's play. Victoria took the lead early, and thanks to a lucky four, scored on the eleventh head, established lead of eight. . Laurenson plugged away steadily to such good purpose that on the'seven- , teenth head the score sto<id 17 all. On the twentieth head Hataitui was 18 andVictoria 21. Lauronson Had a chance to tie by trailing the jack about six inches. With his fourth bowl he played a magnificent shot, but trailed the jack six inches too far, which gave Victoria a shot and the game. The scores were:—Victoria—Bolton and ■ Snaddon, 22; Hataitai—Mitchell and Laurenson,' 18. EDWIN FEATHERS.
