FIELD NATURALISTS' CLUB
The final field excursion for this season of the Wellington Field Naturalists' Club took place last Saturday afternoon. About 40 members of the club met at the Lya l ! Bay tram terminus, and under the direction of Dr. C. A. Cotton, of Victoria College, proceeded round the shore towards Seatoun. The character and formation of the coast was dealt with, and particular reference was made to the various beach formations. The botany of the coast also received attention from Dr. L. Cockayne, F.R.S., and bis understudies.' Many plants were gathered and' named. Also many insects, etc., were collected by the younger members of the club, who seemed to revel in the handling of such things as lizards, spiders, beetles, ants, etc. The rock habitation, sea urchins, etc., were not neglected. Professor H. B. Kirk, of Victoria .College, was there, and the tide was -very suitable. Altogether the excursion was a great success.
