Cooper, S.M., presided at a sitting of the; Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning. . j.. ■ Kate Ryan, a prohibited person, charged with drunkenness, was-convict-ed and cautioned that if she came be- , fore the' Court again she -would be- sent to a home. Peter Mulchay," an old offender, was fined 405., in default fourteen days! imprisonment, for drunkenness. James Panifret, an elderly man, who has been giving way. to drink' lately, was convicted and fined 405., in defaultfourteen days' imprisonment, for another offence, and was a'so sentenced to one month's imprisonment for stealing a coat, the property.of .the second-: hand dealer. A young girl pleaded guilty to the charge that she was an idle and disorderly person, in that she had insufficient means of support, and was committed to the Salvation Army fiome fpr a period of twelve months. • Michael Moloney, for committing, an indecent act in- Frederick Street on Friday night, was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment. Jas. W. Simpson was remanded till this morning'on a charge of failing to comply with the term of an order to maintain his wife, who. resides in Dunedin'; William Newman, who took ndvan-' tage_ of Kate Sweeney, and stole her. furniture, va'ued at-£2, was sentenced to imprisonment for one month.
