THE NEWS IN GERMANY Amsterdam, March 16. Germany is greatly distressed over the sinking of the Dresden. She and tlio Karlsruhe wore the Germans' last hope on the high seas. The Germans have been humiliated by tho hoisting Of the white flag on the Dresden. The Kaiser, in a message to Admiral von Tirpitz (Minister of Marine), described tho sinking of the cruiser as "an event of the saddest." , A CERMAN ALLEGATION. DRESDEN SUNK IN NEUTRAL WATERS. (Rec. March 17, 8.5 p.m.) Washington, March 16. Count von Bemstoff (German Ambassador at Washington), lias officially notified the American Government that British warships sunk the Dresden within neutral waters, and asks for an'investigation. \ NINETEEN OF RAIDER'S CREW MISSING. (Rec. March 17, 11.30 p.m.) New York, March 17. The Orama has arrived at Valparaiso and reports that nineteen of the Dresden's crew are missing. INTERNED STEAMER SLIPS OUT. ESCAPE OF HAMBURG-AMERIKA LINER. (Rec. March 17, 11.30 p.m.) London, March 17. Reports from Las Palmas (Canary Islands) state that the interned HamburgAmerika liner Macedonia- slipped out from the inner harbour during the temporary absence of tho guardship, and despite the removal of parts of her machinery. It is believed that she is using her wireless to attract the German commerce destroyers, in order to deliver the war-stores which are on hoard tho Macedonia. The Macedonia of the Hamburg-' Amerika. line is a vessel of 4357 tons. SWEEDISH STEAMER CAPTURED BY THE GERMANS. (Rec. March 18, 0.15 a.m.) London, March 17. Reuter's Copenhagen correspon3ent reports that the Swedish steamer Gloria, grain-laden from La Plata to Stockholm, has been captured by the Germans and taken to Swinenumde.
