The "Daily Chronicle's" correspondent at Calais states that the Belgians crossed the Yser between Dixmude and Saint Georges, after determined pathbuilding for months across the floods under fira. When they wero completed tho artillery forced the Germans to vacato five miles of tronches, which the Bolgians then occupied. OTHER OPERATIONS ON THE WESTERN FRONT. Paris, March 16. A communique states: "We made further progress north-east of Souain. "Our mines shattered the site of a German defence in the Bois le Pretre." The Prime Minister has received the following from the High Commissioner:— London, March 16, 5.30 p.m. Paris reports: "Tho Belgians have consolidated tho advantages obtained on recent days." London, March 17, 12,20 a.m. "A report from Paris states that on Monday night tho enemy's attempt to recapture the trenches lost at Notre Damo Dc Lorette (near Lens), was repulsed, and prisoners taken. "In tho Champagno district, soino progress has boon made, and north or Beausejour and in tho ArgOnne German counter-attacks were repulsed." (Press Association.)
