MAGISTRATE'S COURT

POLICE CASES A sitting of tho Magistrate's Court was held yesterday morning, presided over by Messrs. R. I). Hanlon and Baker, J.P.'s. Archie Ernest Grant. and Herbert Duffey ivere lined os. each, in default twenty-fur hoi"s : detention, for fighting in Glmcnee Street. Patrick O'Shea. pleaded guilty to'tho theft of a swag, valued at 305., and was remanded till Monday for sentence. Arthur Doughty, alias Herbert Hall, charged with the theft of an overcoat and other articles, valued at £2 14s. 6d., the property of John M'Gregor, pleaded guilty, and was remanded till Wednesday next for sentence. For drunkenness, James Kerr was fined 10s. or forty-eight hours' imprisonment, and Joseph Thos. Barrett waß fined £2, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. Donald Matheson was convicted and discharged for drunkenness? and fined 10s. or forty-eight hours' imprisonment for indecency. Wm. Quee was remanded until Thursday next for medical treatment. Tho charges against him were three for alleged theft. An old man named Thomas Carter, alias Jones, was convicted of being <1 rogue and a vagabond, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. On a further charge, of breaking and entering at Tikokino he was remanded to appear at Napier on Thursday next.
