A sitting of the Railway Appeal Board, with Judge Haseldene presiding, will be held at the local Courthouse on Friday,i March 19. The Patea Harbour Board's harbour' improvement schemo includes dredging operations, and the tender of Mr. A. Cornish, of Wanganui, 'at £396, has been accepted for the construction of' a pontoon for dredging purposes. •A man named Fergus John Adams pleaded guilty at the Court to stealing a pair of boots valued at 3os. Senior Sergeant Bourke told the Magistrate that Adams worked near Waitotara and on the fifth of this month went into the township. He asked the porter at ono of the hotels for permission to go to his room to have a shave. The permission was given and after shaving himself he disappeared with the porter's new boots, and he was found in ; Wanganui wearing the boots. A fine of £2 or in default 30 days' imprisonment, was imposed. The Waverley A. and P. Show, to be held on March 17, gives every promise of being the most successful yet held. The entries are a record. A start has been made with the Waverley water and lighting scheme. The petition in favour of the Saturday half-holiday has been signed by over 6000 residents of Wanganui and Gonville. The Wanganui Education Board has accepted Mr. John Cobbe's offer of the free .use of nearly eight acres of land close to Feilding for the purpose of a school farm. The land is well situated, and convenient, and should be • very useful to the pupils taking the agricultural class. Tho Wanganui Centre bowling tournament was brought to a tonclusion on Saturday, when Christie's team, representing St. John's, won the final of the full-rink competition from London's Wanganui Club team. The champion of champion singles contest resulted in a win for W. Rankin, of the Wanganui Club, who beat Sutcliffe, of Marton, by one point in the play off. ,
