TWO LIVES LOST
THROUGH SWAMPING OF A DINGHY. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Whangarel, March 13. A tragedy occurred yesterday afterf noon at Paru -Bay, twelve miles from y AVhangarei. ' 0 Alfred B. Cann, aged 28. years, of, - s Whangarei, and Ernest Chaffoyj a settier at Kamo, natives of Exeter, Engg land, went'to Paru .Bay on Thursday, r Yesterday Tlios. Ryan, & settler, arranged to take them' for a trip in an y auxiliary oil launch. 'All started from the r shore in a dinghy against wind and tide. ' s When four boat lengths from the launch ■, the dinghy was swamped. Chaffey, an e elderly man, succeeded in swimming, to a the launch with difficulty. He got I- aboard and threw ropes to Cann and Ryan. They were exhausted and were i, unable to seouxe tJiem, and both were r drowned. A fisherman, hearing, the !- cries, took off Chaffey. The bodies of the >. others were.recovered. ••• e Cann was a traveller, and had been f in the Dominion two years. He has a y widow and four "children in England.
