!♦ . ■ \ ' ■ £300,000 A MONTH. ■ j Speaking at Waiuku a few days ago ! on the part New Zealand is taking in j the war, the Prime Minister said his feeling waß that in the present crisis every man in New Zealand! of the proper age, who was physically fit, was at the disposal of the Imperial authorities; every sovereign we possess, and every sovereign's worth, of property was available for the use of the Empire. He scarcely thought that people realisj ed all that was being done, in the Dominion. He was not supposed to men- ' tion the actual number of New Zealand- '[ ens who had gone to the front, .but he would say that they had over 4000 men in camp now, ready to. go when the command came alone, ana thousands more ready to take tneir turn when the opportunity, offered. He took pride in tne fact that in proportion to ' our ? population we had sent more men to j! the front than any other Dominion. . Our war expendtiure was heavy, as, 0 might be expected—£3oo,ooo per month" or £10,000 per day—but we were ready and willing to do more, and the more ■ we could do the better pleased the people of New Zealand would be.
