"GRAFT" ALLEGATIONS

A SOLICITOR'S EVIDENCE

Sydney, .March 11. Before the Royal Commission which is inquiring into <he allegations of graft ill connection with tlio Wheat Acquisition Act, Mr. Fitz'patrick, treasurer of. the Farmers' and Settlers' Association, explained that ho was Campbell's informant regarding the alleged payment to Mr. Holman. He had overheard a conversation in which the speaker said: ii i J'!, Holman got £6000 for pushing that Bill through." He repeated this to Campbell. The air at that time was full of sinister rumours.
Mr. Drew (a solicitor) gave evidence that he was offered £500 to take over the case, but as ho discovered that it was likely _ to involve several law cases, he decided not to accept less than £1000. Referring to the interview with' the Attorney-General (Mr. Hall), he said that lie placed the position before him and discussed the matter.
