WELLINGTON COLLEGE OLD BOYS

ANNUAL REPORT. The animal report of the Wellington College Old Boys' Association, to be presented at the annual taeeting _ tonight, states that the finances are in a satisfactory condition. The balancei sheet shows a credit of £105 2s. 7d., of which £100 is on fixed deposit. It was originally intended to hold the annual dinner as usual, but the committee decided that .under existing circumstances the dinner should uo't be held, but that, instead, an Old Boys' Fund should be inaugurated for tuo relief of distress in Great Britain, Ireland, and Belgium. The subscriptions received for this fund amount to over £40, which sum has been forwarded to the hon. treasurer of the fund referred to. The sum would have been larger but, for the fact that so many old boys had already subscribed to public appeals in the same direction. Preparations were made during.the year for the holding of tho- annual ball in conjunction with the Old Girls' Association, but on acpount of the war it was decided not,to go on with the function. A special donation of£2 25.-was again made to the college to provide a' prize for rifle shooting, in addition to the usual donation ol' £5 os. to the ground fund and £2 2s. for the old boys' prize. The report says it is sad to have to record the death of an indefatigablo Worker in the cause of the association in the person of Mr. Stanley Brown. The report would be incomplete, without a reference being made to. the pre-' sent war and to the ready 'response made by Old Boys to the Empire's call. With tho Advance Expeditionary Force now in Samoa there are over 100' old boys, and a still greater number of members have left with;the main Expeditionary Force and' its Reinforcements. An effort is being made to compile & list of all these old hoys. On the whole, the past year has been a most notable one in the annals of old boys' history, and the committee trust that the success met with by the association in all its undertakings will stimulate old boys to greater efforts in the future on behalf of tho association and the old school.
