KARORI AFFAIRS
The monthly meeting of the' Karori Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. W. T. Hildreth) presided, and there were also present:— Councillors Burne, Davis,' Boyes, Skegg, Hamilton, Henderson, Bradnock, and Jordan. The- Public Works Department for- ' warded a copy of the additional tramWay regulations proposed to be issued under the provisions of the Tramways Amendment Act, 1910. In reference to the late car to Karori It was decided to accept the offer made by the Tramway Department to charge double mileage only on the return journey, and that after April 1, on the revised time-table, the council would only charge single fareß on both the outward and inward journey of the late car. The Runanga Borough Council wrote requesting support for a motion passed that the Government should be requested to regulate food prices, and prevent exploitation. "I think they should begin by putting their own house in order. Coal has been one of the dearest nrticles," commented a councillor, and tlie letter was received. It was decided that ' the engineer should obtain an estimate of the cost of enamel name-plates for the streets. Tho Wellington Lawn Tennis Association wrote regarding the construction of iho proposed tennis courts at Karori, stating that the drop of 1.34 in. in 39 feet would be too much. The Works Committee reported that the cost of making a dead level would be heavy, and moved against erecting a double wire fence as an experiment to stop the wind. The report was adopted. It was decided to take proceedings ngaiilst several ratepayers for allowing cattle to wander on tho roads.
Accounts amounting to £357 were passed for payment. t
