• A public meeting held at tie Lower Hutt Council Chambers last evening unanimously decided to form a. Municipal Braaa Band. The Mayor (Mr. H, Baldwin) presided oyer an attendance of about twentyeight persons, the majority of whom wore the National Reserve badge. Brief speeches were delivered ly the chairman and "Messrs. Young and M'llvride, and it was-intimated by the last-named that a sot of second-hand instruments could be obtained on easy terms for £120 at Auckland. 'A committee, consisting of Messrs. Yovuig, Shields, M'llvride,' Harvey, and Burt, was set up, with' Mr. Bell secretary ana treasurer pro tem,_ to act in conjunction with the chairman, to draw up rules, etc.. The names of twelve players and several learners were banded in, and the committee decided, to meet the 'trustees of the old Hutt' Band (Messrs. Burt, Cudby, and . Hodgins) next .Tuesday evening. During the evening the chairman stated that : to set the ball rolling he would donate-the sum of £3 3s. to the'band fund, and he hoped ore long to see tha band properly equipped.. . The following officers have been elected in connection with the Hutt. Methodist Fellowship President, Rev. Wm. Beckett; vice-presidents, Messrs, W. Walton, W. Hobbs, and T. Humphries; secretary and treasurer, Mr. B. C. Warnes: committee, Messrs. Strand and Trim, with officers ex-officia; organist, Mr. R. Blakely. A men's orchestra is being formed in connection with the movement, and the subject for discussion on April 4 will be "What Is Wrong With the ChurohP"
The treasurer of the Pdtorie 'Ambulance Van Committee reports that as the. result of a recent collection the following amounts had been received:— Gear Co. Slaughterhouse, £2 6s. lid.; Follmonpsery Department, £3 4s. 2d.; Freezing Department, £2 13s. 9d.: Preserving Department, £1 9s. 6d.; Working Men's Club,-7s. Id.: total, £10 Is. id. . ■
