LORD. DUNRAVEN REPLIES TO LORD ROSEBERY.
London, March 8. Lord Dunraven. the well-known sportsman; in a letter to the Press, supports the stoppage, of the Ascot and Epsom' racing festivals, refers to Lord Rosebery's Napoleonic comparison, end adds that no doubt then we had only ourselves to consider; now we had our neighbours, whose feelings might be wounded. _ "We should not amuse ourselves while the Belgians' sun was clouded." /

■ _' London, March 9. i The English Jockey Club will consider at a meeting on March 16 the question of the continuance of racing during the war.
; Lord Rosebery, in a recent letter to the newspapers, protested against a suggestion to stop racing. He said that if it ceased altogether, thoroughbred'horses,'which are essential to the army,: would disappear. "Our Allies know that Englishmen, do not think it necessary to put up the shutters because engaged in war.. Epsom and Ascot races were held throughout the Napoleonic wars, and the winner of the Derby was announced in general orders during the Crimean campaign."
