SOME CURIOUS STATEMENTS.

Sir, —Prom the "London Opinion" of November 14 I have extracted the information that it is a pity the Cook Islanders' offer of service at the front may not bo availed of, as their appearance would cause a mild sensation at the front. Their normal stature is about 4ft. i2in., and thoy measure about the same round the middle. How oil earth do these extraordinary statements get about? The following article mentions that Stewart Island has no permanent inhabitants, being used mainly as a camping-out ground for troops and boy scouts. Can anything'be done to dissipate such ignorance?—l am, etc., J. E. ADAMS WILKES, l'ort Moresby, I'apua. February 11, 1915.
