FOXTON MYSTERY CLEARED UP.

A CHAPTER OF CASUALTIES. ' Inveroarglll, March 8. Francis Wilson, aged 7 years, while nding in his father's-cart, fell, and the horse, trod on his chest, inflicting injurles from which he died a few hours later. •

Aram Don,-a shunter at the Bluff, was seriously injured through a truck jumping the rails. It crushed him against another truck and his leg wassevered. His condition is critical. Frank Butler, aged 18, whilst riding a motor-cycle to the Territorial camp, . collided with a cart and sustained severe injuries to iis head. He bas recovered consciousness, but hiß audition is 6erious. WELLINGTON GIRL KILLED. Hastings, March 8 Pene Carpenter, aged 17J, of Grant Road, Wellington, who was visiting some friendß at Hastings, was killed instantly yesterday- afternoon. She and lier cousin, Mina Carpenter, were riding double-banked on a horse which bucked and threw both girls. The. girl . Perie landed on her. head and broke tor neck. The other girl escaped with a badly bruised hip. [Deceased was a daughter of . Mr. George Carpenter,, of the Government Advertising Department, who has gone to Hastings.] VERDICT OF SUICIDE. Auckland, March 8 The body found under Grafton Bridge has .been identified as that of William John Melton, a married man p.iout 35 years of age. He had been troubled with insomnia and left his heme at 5.30 on Sunday At the inquest on Melton, a verdict of suicide while despondent, following on illness,' was returned. , BURNED TO DEATH. . Hamilton, Maroh 8. Thomas Crossley, aged l 43, a '»idowcr, a native. of Dewsbury, Yorkshire, waa burned to death at Kawhia yesterday. When he placed some chaff in a shed on Saturday night he was intoxicated, and his charred remains were found yesterday among the embers of, the shed, which took fire during the night. MAORI BOY SCALDED. Rotorua, March 8. On Saturday afternoon a Maori boy, aged 7, named Tahunga Kereopa, fell into a boiling poo lat Whakarewarewa, being fearfully scalded ,on the body, arms, and legs. He is in a critical con - dition. RAILWAY GANGER'S DEATH. Taumarunul, March 8. A-man named Henry- Merrin, _ ganger on a small railway formation . contract on .the Stratford Main 'Trunk line, was so severely injured by a truck at Mahirakan, 15 miles from Taumariinui, op Saturday morning that he died ten minutes after admission to the Taumarunui Hospital at 7 o'clock the same evening. Morrin lias two brothers in the Kaiapoi district, Canterbury, but no other relatives in New Zealand. A verdict of accidental death was return' ed at the inquest.
