MAGISTRATE'S COURT Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., dealt with, the police cases at .'the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning; A very old offender, for theft, James Oliver Armstrong, was sent to gaol for three;months for stealing 81b. of tobacco, the property of some person unknown. 'Armstrong bad! been discovered in. the act of selling the tobacco 'by Detective Dempsey, who arrested, him. ,■ ; Stephen Dawriok, who entered a shop during the temporary absence' of the proprietor, Francis James Tucker, and helped himself to 41b. of bacon and a bottle of pickles, was fined 1 £1, or three days' goal, for theft.' Alexander Baker, who. waß found on Friday night without lawful excuse in the yard of the Mount Cook Girls' Sohool, was charged with being a rogue and- a vagabond, and sent to gaol for a month.- . , A seaman from the Orari, Constantino Chambiras, was sent to gaol for a month for deserting from the vessel. For drunkenness, Herbert Wynn. Williams was fined £3, or fourteen days', gaol, and a prohibition order taken out against him.' Alexander Churchman was fined £2, or fourteen days, and George .Conroy fined £1, or. three days' gaol;; I '' ; Six first offending inebriates wore dealt with for drunkenness.
