GIFT MULLET FOR THE TROOPS

ALLEGATIONS ANSWERED. (By Telegraph.—"rewr AbsmlMlmi.) Dunedln, March 6. The Minister of Defence (Hon. James Allen) has received a cable message from General Godley, advising that the statement that a hundred cases of gift mullet was sold in canteen on hoard troopships is incorrect. The officers commanding troops on the transports 'named certify that they duly issued those gifts during the voyage, except six ca6es from the Orari, which are said to have been handed to the supply depot. Five of these were duly traced, but being too small •a' quantity for distribution, they were placed in canteen, the proceeds of their sale being devoted'to the regimental funds.
