SWIMMING

DUKE KAHANAUOKU CARNIVAL.' The local Centre has made complete arrangements for handling the big gathering of the public that is expected at tho carnival at Te Aro Baths this afternoon. Duke Kahawunoku is the acknowledged champion sprint swimmer of the world. At the last Olympic Games at Stockholm, where the pick of the various nations' best athletes assembled, Kahanamokii! proved his superiority when tittending thero as the representative of the United States. His swimming companion, George Cunha, who is classed as the, world's next be.-t sprinter, will aito appear, and' in addition a first-class programme of events will be provided, comprising, amoug other items, flying squadron teams' relay championship, ■ Star Boating Club championship, ladies' races, diviug an<l coiiiic entertainment by City swimmers. ' With the assistance of the City authorities, - special seating accommodation has- been provided for patrons. During the afternoon Jupp's Band will render selections.

The visitors will arrive from the south this morning at 10.30 o'clock. An official reception will take place at tho Town Hall buildings.
