A FLOURISHING INSTITUTION
A college that has viva voce classes going morning, afternoon and evening, and has also an extensive correspondence connection, must be unique in the Dominion. Banks's College, situated at the corner of Woodward Street and The Terrace, is. unique for the further reason that it has more departments and provides _ more courses of study than any other institution of its kind in New Zealand. It is in fact the only institution of its kind, Banks's College now embraces ten departments. These oonsist of a day school for iboys between the ages of 5 and IS, which'is divided into three divisions, a secondary., and two grades of junior. In the secondary division pupils are prepared for the junior university and senior national scholarship, matriculation, solicitors'- general knowledge, medical and engineering preliminary, Duntroon military, entrance and senior public, examinations. The work is under the supervision of Mr. H. H. Cornish., M.A., who is assisted by Mr. T. S. Atkinson and Mr. J. W. Russell. The work of the junior divisions is that of preparation for the secondary school. Of. the other departments of Banks's College, a very popular one is evening classes in all subjects of the matriculation and other entrance university and of the entrance and senior Public Service examinations. There is also a. department for accountancy and one for practical business training. The subjects in these latter departments are taught only by qualified accountants, and all papers have been prepred, both in the law and the commercial subjects, by the wellknown legal practitioners and accountants. Full provision is also made for instruction in shorthand and typewriting, and the number of students who pass through this department and aTe afterwards found positions by the director of the oollego is very large. A new department consists of classes in all subjects necessary for military emmissions. The correspondence side of. Banks's College consists of tuition in all the subjects already named and also of an excellent course in law, by which students are prepared for all subjects of the law pro-' fessional examinations; of a course in modern history and economics, which is ono of exceptional interest at the present time, and of another in all subjects of tho university degree find trackers' certificate examinations.
In all their work, both viva voce and correspondence, the proprietors and instructors of Banks's College ondeavoiix to give each student the very best of value for his fees, and, while enabling him to pass his examination, to provide him with knowledge tliat will be of practical utiliy to him, .
