A widespread anarchistic plot, having for its object the killing of Mr. Andrew Carnegie, the two Rockefellers, Mr. Cornelius Vnnderbilfc, and other of the wealthiest men, has been nipped in the bud by the arrest of two men while they were in tlie act of projecting a lighted bomb towards the altar of St. Patrick's Cathedral. The blowing up of the Cathedral, they said, was to have been the signal for the inaugurating of a reign of terror comparable to the French revolution.' Gangs, with rilles and revolvers, were to appear simultaneously in various parts of the city, invade the financial district, and lay bombs under the biggest banks. General looting was to follow. The State Brickworks have been rendered idle owing to tho manager's refusal to reinstate a dismissed employee. MURDER TRIAL IN SYDNEY. (Rec., March 4, 11.23 p.m.) Sydney, March 4. Joseph Clayton has been committed for trial for the Alleged murder of Mrs. Sullivan on February 11. Clayton fatally shot Mrs. Sullivan, a boardnighouse-keeper, and then himself, infiiotiug critical wounds in the' head. No one was present at the time. Clayton had previously lodged with Mrs. Sullivan, but left 6ome weeks ago, after a disagreement.

Smith, the last survivor of the Birkenhead disaster, died in the St. Ives Workhouse. Smith saved the life of Captain Lucai. The troopship Birkenhead was wrecked off the Cape of Good Hopo on February 26, 1852. The troops formed at the word of command, and went down at their posts, having put the women and children in the boats: More than 400 men were drowned.
