The Rev. S. G. Compton, formerly vicar of Levin, is now in charge of St. Michael's, Battersea, a populous parish in South London. • Mr. Joseph J. Brittain, who has been Consul-General for the United States in •New: Zealand, mth headquarters _ at 'Auckland, for some months, has received notification from Washington of his appointment as;Consul-General at Sydney, in succession to Mr. John T. Bray. Mr. Brittain will probably be leaving to assume his new duties in the course of a. few weeks. •• Mr. Will Hope, who has during the past few years been on the staffs of various newspapers ' in the Dominion, and was latterly engaged on the Christchurch '.'Sun" as black and white artist, leaves for San FrancisM to-day by the Moana, in order to gain further experience in cartoon and caricature work. Mr. James Mackenzie, Under-Secre-tary for Lands, left Auckland on Monday afternoon on a tour in the North of Auckland, in connection with his Department's operations on the gumfields. He will return" on Friday, and leaves for .Wellington by the midday express on Saturday. 'The Rev. H: H. Robjohns," of St. Matthew's Parish, Auckland, has been appointed curate of St. Paul's Parish, .Wellington.
