WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION, 'At last night's meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Boxing Association, Mr. R. W. M'Villy presided, and thero were also present Messrs. J. E. Staples, D. R. Hoggard, N. Coffey, F. Gale, J. <L. Day, B. Guise, E. A. Dawson, W. A. Fordham, and W. G. Talbot (secretary). ' , Mr. W. G. Atack adyised that the annual meeting of the . New Zealand Boxing Council would be held on Friday, April 9. A letter from the New Zealand Council referred to the proposal to set up a legally constituted controlling body for the sport in the Dominion. The letter stated that the sub-committee, appointed to inquire into the matter, reported that the proposal would necessitate an alteration in the present law, and_ that, in view of the national crisis, it was not advisable to approach the Minister of Justice at this stage. It was decided to leave the question in the hands of the council. It was decided to send a cablegram to the representative (Mr. W. Lawless), inquiring as to the terms on which Denny Murphy would come to New Zealand to meet the welter champion (Mitohell),. and as to the terms on which a match between Frank Ellis and Sid. Russell could be arranged for Wellington. Mr. Staples was appointed to report to thenext meeting on the question of preliminary bouts. SWIMMING

YACHTING RACE PROM "WELLINGTON TO PORT UNDERWOOD. The ocean race of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club was held on Saturday. The oourse was from Clyde Quay to Ocean Bay, Port Underwood, and baok, a total distance of about 100 miles. The starters were Messrs. Hamill Brothers' Ailsa, scratch; Mr. John M'Lean Muritei, 2ihr.Mr. Headland's Viking, 3hrs. The boats left Wellington sliertly before 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, and were favoured all the way across Cook Strait with a fresh northerly breeze.. At daybreak on Sunday the _ wind veered round to the southland it blow from that direction, until the close of the race.'- The Ailsa returned at 7.45 a.m. on Sunday. The Muritai came home just two hours after'her (9.45), and the Viking did not return until 11.30 a.m. The Muritai, the smallest of the trio, was awarded first place on time allowanco, winning by just half an' hour; the Ailsa was second.
