Nominations for all events at the Eangitikei meeting close to-night at 9 o'clock -with Secretary, H. A. Goodall at Bulls. The V.Br.C. Autumn Carnival will be continued to-day, when the Australian Cup will be run. The New Zealand-bred Di Gama, who put up such a fine finish with Land of Song in the Essendon Stakes, will he the public choice, with ,the American-bred Lempriere next in demand. The Dannevirke Cup meeting will be commenced to-morrow, and will conclude on Thursday. - Mr. G. Hunter, president of the Racing Commission, went south last evening. The Commission will visit Eangiora and Ohoka to-day. It is said that Master Lupin will be tried over fences in the winter. The gelding. does i not fill the. eye as a hurdle horse, but if he learns to jump he is bred well enough on the dam's side to stay any distance. Several horses were railed from here yesterday to Dannevirke. Jem went up m charge of J. H. Prosser, and J. Scott took Eongora and Merry Guy. Banksia, Emperador, Bimeter, Court Martial, Plying Start, and Dinner Gong were shipped home by. the Wahine last evening. Sanquhar, who, has been imported from England by Sir Geo. Clifford, should be. a very valuable addition to the bloodstock of the Dominion. He is a five-year-old brown horse, by San'try, by Gallinule from Valve, who was a fullsister to the Waikanae sire Bezonian (Velasquez—Gas). The yearling filly by Hokeby—Stepka, dam of Pavlova, joined the Porirua team recently. She will shortly be joined by two other fillcs by the same sire. They are from Savanna, by Stepniak—Seashell, dam of Ireland; and Seashell. by Chainshot—Nautilus, dam of Sea King, Kina, and Athenic. The two fillies will race in the colours of Mr. Acton Adams, who also owns Limpet in the same stablo. Prosser will thus have three of the first batch of Eokeby's progeny for two-year-old racing next season. The speedy Oamarn horse, Cl.melish, was a strong fancy for' the Dunedin Publicans' Handicap, bnt ho went amiss and did not raco at the Wingatui fixture. Now it is reported that his racing career is at an end, and that he will retire to tho stnd noxt season. Clynelish is by Soult—Eeplete, by Lethe from a Derringer maro. So far as it goes, this pedigree represents some very successful lines. Soult was one of the most consistent sires of. winnors in the Dominion, while some of his sons have already made good at the stud. Lethe is a halfbrother to Conqueror, being by Cadogan— Siesta, by Traducer—Hammock, while Derringer was a successful son of Mnsket.
It is over 12 months since Kilrain has won o race, but several times this season he lias been placed in big handicaps. After the Trentham meeting next month it is probable the bay hfirse will lie retired and next season he will take lip stud duty. FIXTURES. March 3 and 4—Dannevirke B.C. Autumn. March 10 and Xl—Nelson J.C. Annual. March 12 and 13—Napier' Park B.C. Autumn. March 17—Opunako B.C. Anmial. Mafp.b. IN sod &■£, Atitti/tiji March 24 Md 85rEwiaw»i «iC.
