There was an attendance of about forty-five-members at tho first drill in connection with tho Petone branch, of the National Reserve. Sergeant-Major ■ Wiechern was instructor, and at the conclusion of the drill (which was elementary), Lieutenant-Colonel Porter, who had witnessed the proceedings, de-' livered a brief address, in which he complimented the men on their 'first attempt. Neutral representatives, of. the International Red Cross. organisation Kave toured the war camps in Britain. They report that the treatment of pris* oners is excellent, and greater fairness would be impossible.. Neither the German Government nor .the families of the men need have any anxiety. The Germans are building an enormous bridge across the Schelat, between Hoboken and Antwerp, to enable heavy " artillery to cross. The city of. Antwerp is being compelled to defray , the cost. —"Times" and Sydney "Sun" services. : Fearing contamination, _ the German Staff ordered, the exhumation of hastilyburied dead in elevated parts of Belgium.
