FINE OF £30 IMPOSED.. (By Eeiesmpn—ttreas Association) Dunedin, February 26. Frank Smith, who had pleaded guilty of sheep-stealing at Livingstone, came up for sentence this morning. Prisoner had been working at a water-race in the back country, and had taken two lambs and the skins off dead sheen. Mr. Justico Sim said .as th'e man bore a good character, and the one under review.might be .assumed-to be an isolated offence, he would be justified in inflioting .a. monetary penalty. Accused was. ordered to pay a fine of £30 and to be kept in custody till it was jjaid, the. term cf imprisonment not to exceed six months.
