HARBOUR BOARD

' MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wellington .Harbour Board was held last night. There were present: Messrs. R*. Fletcher (chairman), J. ■ G. Cobb, A. H. .Hindmarsh, R. A. Wright,. H. Nathan, J. W. M'Ewan, C. W. Jones, M. Cohen, A. M'Farlane, and Captain Watson;. \ The bank passbooks showed : Current account, credit balance, £24,657 2s. Id.; imprest account, credit balance, £1214 19s. 6d.: on fixed deposit, £60,000. Payments authorised were; Accounts and wages, £15,644 3s.' 2d.; progress ■ payments oil; contracts, £2/54 16s. Bd.; salaries for February, £931 os. 2d. Total, £19,330. ■ It was decided to make a donation, of £5 : ss. towards the picnic fund of the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Industrial Union of Workers. The chairman reported that the tender of Mesprs. Donald M'Lean and Co. .for | contract No. 173, additions to -Wool Jetty, for £9540, being the lowest and' in order, had 1-een, accepted, and that the agreement of contract and bond had been duly signed, with Messrs. James Russell and W-. G. Duthie as sureties. It was resolved that the seal of the board be affixed to the agreement of contract. It 'was also reported that the back beacon of the new harbour lights had been completed, and that arrangements were being made to light on March 12. It was decided to call for tenders, closing 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, for annual supplies and services. The Wellington Patent Slip Company, Ltd., wroto,requesting that the question of the length of the new slip should be submitted to. the arbitration of the Minister of Marine. The chairman said that the position was that the board desired the new slip to be a certain length, and the Patent Slip Company thought that it was too long. They now asked that the matter should be submitted to the Minister for arbitration. On the motion of the chairman it was decided to place the board's position before the Minister, and that the matter be referred to him for arbitration.
