TRADING WITH THE ENEMY
SCIENCE CONGRESS DELEGATE AN ALLEGED MEDIUM. (Rec. February 24, 9.40 p.m.) Sydney, February 24. Theodore Tobias, a German on the staff of the Wurtemberg Electro-plate Company, iriio said that he had been naturalised iu New Zealand between 1907 and 1908, hut not in Australia, was charged with attempting to trade with the enemy. According to the Crown;; 'tha , case against. Tobias,.was .that .'he'allegedly tried to send letters containing orders through Professor Finch, who attended the British Science Congress, and two other sources, -but that no ; money was sent to Germany. ' Tobias, in evidence, admitted writing to'his. firm in October last, suggesting an open factory in England at the end of the war, and take partially finished goods from Germany to England. and finish them there, and stamp them British-made, thus overcoming the prejudice against German (roods. He informed his firm that Australia and New Zealand would rush' goods, which were stamped '"British." The case is proceeding.
