MAGISTRATE'S COURT
CHARGE AGAINST A CIVIL SERVANT REMANDED TILL TO-MORROW Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided over a'.sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday. • A further remand until to-morrow, was granted in the case in which Ernest Alfred Welch is-charged withi receivhiE £17 14s. from C. H. Treadwell on terms requiring him to aocount for the same to the Seceivor-General, and failing -to do so. Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared for the accused, and said that after a week's curative treatmont his client was now in his ordinary mind. Application was accordingly made for bail. Chief-Detective Boddam replied that this nlust be substantial, as there was another charge pending against accused. The Magistrate fixed 1 the bail 'at £200.
' ' HOMELESS. • Ida Marx Browh, who was described by the police as quite homeless, addicted to drinking methylated spirits, and as having- been' previously convicted of theft, pleaded guilty to two , petty thefts from J. Flockton and' Wm. Schwartz, and to being idle and disorderly. On the first charge she was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, ana on che second charge sent to prison for ttoea months. , ' ; T Edward Kelloher. and Joseph.. Glass wero charged l with using threatening behaviour in Webb Street. Kelleher was additionally charged with drunkenness. Glass was represented by Mr. EL F. O'Leary, and after hearing the evidence the Magistrate dismissed tho charge against him, but fined Eelieher 205., in default three - days' imprisonment on the first charge, and convicted and discharged him for drunkenness. , Georgina Perrett was sent to prison for twelve months on a chargo of being a rogue and a vagabond. George Lyford, an old man, was .sent to prison for three months on a charge of being idle and disorderly, in tnat he was found begging in Cuba Street. Margaret Williams appeared oh remand on a charge' of being a rogue and a vagabond. She agreed to go to Mount Magdala Home, pud the Magistrate accordingly convicted and ordered "her to come up for sentence when called upon. James M'Sweeney was fined £3, in default one month's imprisonment for drunkenness, and £2 or fourteen days for resisting Constable Fitzgerald. For committing breaches of their prohibition orders, Thomas Franci« Trainor and Michael O'Brien were each fined £1 with costs 75., in default three days' imprisonment.
For drunkenness, Wm. Dennehy was fined 10s., or forty-eight, hours' imprisonment. Seven first offenders were dealt with.. ' SEPARATION AND. MAINTENANCE. For. disobeying a maintenance order, Alexander Robertson was ordered so be imprisoned for fourteen days, the warrant to be suspended on the payment of ss. a week off the arrears..
