Tho Union Company's training ship Aparima left New Zealand this week on-one of her periodical trips, and as an evidence of the widespread interest in tho company's scheme for training officers for the merchant service, applications to join wero received from Tasmania, South Australia, Victoria, and- Vancouver. -• ' Nino cadets, whose ' indentures expired this month, have been transferred to the company's passenper steamers as junior officers, and judging from past experlenco it will not bo long before they will be' filling responsible positions in tho com-' pany's service. In this connection the examiner for the Government Marine Department, Wellington, has advised the company .that four of the earlier cadets have just passed I a very excellent examination for the first mate foreign-going certificates, and .he expresses an opinion that the candidates reflected much oredit on their instructors.

A cable message has ben received by the head office of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company,, stating that R.M.S. Tainui had arrived at Hobart from London, via Cape Town, at 7 p.m. on .Sunday. The vessel is expected to arrive at Wellington on Friday, February 26. ; CHEESE AND BUTTER SHIPMENTS. ; A large Quantity of cheese and butter. will be brought to Wellington from Onehungal and ftew Plymouth by the Corinna to-day.. The freight consists'of 21,500 boxes of ; butter and 2800 crates of chees for transhipment to the Coririthic for London.
MOEHAK.I ABBIYES 10 A.M. A ■wireless message has been received from Captain Collins, of the Moeroki, stating that he expected his vessel to arrive at Wellington from Sydney direct at 10 a.to, to-day. She will berth at the Queen's Wharf, No. 1 North, end will proceed on to Lyttelton. at 5 p.m. to-morrow.
S.M.S. GOEINTHIC'S DEPASTURE. ' On inquiry at the office of the local agents for the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, it was learned that K.M.S. Oorinthio would be dispatched from the Glasgow' Wharf, Wellington, for London at daybreak on Friday, February 26. All intending passengers must embark on Thursday evening.
Up to the present no advice has been received in Wellington of the departure of K.M.S. Marama from San Francisco. It is not known whether the vessel has completed repairs at the Califomian port. In any case arrangements have been mode for the vessel to proceed to Sydney direct, in order to pick up her schedule running. Having left 6ydney last Saturday the' F. and S. Line's chartered steamer Lord Erne is due at Auckland on Friday next. She will take in what cargo is offering at the northern port for Boston and Naw York, and will leave in continuation of her journey on. Saturday, February 27. >■ ■ , The F. and S. liner Somerset, which is bound to England under charter to the New Zealand. Shipping Company, and which left Wellington on January 25, is due at London, on or about March 8. On March 1 the F. and S. steamer Buteshire is due at Avonmouth from New Zealand parts. She cleared this port on January 10. 'At present loading in New Zealand waters, the F. and S. liner Westmeath will be dispatched for Home ports next month. The New Zealand Shipping Company's 6teamer Eimutaka, which is en route from Australian ports to Home, is due at Liverpool to-morrow, and at London on March 4. : . Arrangements have been made for the New- Zealand Shipping Company's . liner Opawa to take the March loading berth at West of England ports for Now Zealand. Before proceeding on to southern ports to-day, the 'Huddart-Parker steamer Westralia will land 350 tons of northern' cargo at tho Queen's - Wharf, No. 6. Laden with wheat, the Government chartered steamer Hesperus, which has come from Vancouver, is due at Lyttelton early this morning. The cargo steamer Mineric, which made a cell at Wellington for bunker cool on January 17, is reported to have' arrived at Antofogasto, from Newcastle, on Saturday last. En route from Liverpool to Wellington the F. and S. liner HaHamshire is due at Auckland on Thursday next, and at Wellington about March 2. It has been announced that the'chartered steamer Trojan would load in New Zealand next month for Boston and New York, via Panama Canal. This information is incorrect.
Homeward loading will be completed by tho New Zealand Shipping Compajiy'a Ouiki in time for her to take her departure from Wellington, on Saturday, February 27. On Thursday of this week the Kaikonra is due at Wellington from Watiard to complete Home loading. She will be dispatched from here for . London nert Saturday.
