THE HUTT PARK AND TROTTING
AMENDED LEASE APPROVED. Matters in connection with the Hutt Park and the Hutt Valley Trotting Club were brought under the consideration of the Hutt Borough Council last evening. Councillor Hobbs moved that in view of the recent offer , made by the Trotting Club of £100 : per year for a lease, that clause 9 be deleted from any •lease made with the club. It should be stated that clause 9 in the proposed lease prohibits the sale of intoxicating liquor on the park, and owing to: the Hutt Park Committee's decision last year to retain it, caused negotiations to bo broken off. Councillor Hobbs stated that in his opinion there were 30 members to consider, representing the three councils concerned—Hutt, Petone, and Eastbourne — and if a vote were taken on the matter only about six would be'found to favour the insertion of the clause. In- reply to a question, tho mover stated tW the term of the lease was suggested at 15 years. _ After a longthy discussion tho motion was carried, and clause 9 wae deleted. The Mayor tendered hi 6 resignation as one of the council's representatives ton the Park Committee, remarking in doing so, "I cannot accent instructions from any council or any body." Regret was expressed at tho Mayor s resignation 1 , which, however, was accepted, and Councillor Brassel was appointed in his place.
