LAWN TENNIS 1 INTER-CLUB CONTESTS. Three victories were .registered l by the Brougham Hill Lawn Tennis Club in tho inter-club contests on Saturday. In tho junior men's competition, the club's representatives defeated Newtown by four rubbers to two. In the thirdclass men's competition, Brougham Hill defeated Petone by five rubbers to one. The Brougham Hill junior ladies' team met Victoria College, tlie scores being as follow (Brougham Hill representatives being mentioned first in every instance): — Singles.—Miss Stevens defeated Miss D. Mason, 7—4; Miss Sinclair defeated Miss Wilson, 7 —6; Miss Miller defeated Miss _ Cook, 7—o; Sirs. Earle defeated Miss E. Mason, 7 —2. Doubles.—Misses Stevens and Sinclair defeated Misses D. ROWING NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. P. .Hannan, who is to row William Webb for tlie professional sculling championship. of New Zealand, is at present training on the Wairaußiver, Grovetown. Writing to a friend in Wellington, Hannan states that he went toPicton fully intending to train there, but was invited to pay a visit to Grovetown, and so pleased was'he with the fine- stretch' of rowable water that' the Wairau -presented that he decided to do his training there. _ i A good deal of interest is displayed in the coining event, as it is said that Webb is showing good form. A zest is also added to the match in the fact that Dick Arnst, who defeated ,Webb for the championship of the world, is once more in training in Sydney, and looks like coming back to something appro aching his old form.

HERETAUNGA BOATING CLUB ' The result of .the committee's challenge cup in connection with tlie Heretaunga Boating Club was as follows: Illinois, 1; Irex, 2; Runa, 3. The Illinois won by 20 seconds. Commodore Macdonald, who, with two companions, followed the race in the Kia Ora launch, had a slight misha,p to their engine which necessitated their being towed'into Wellington by the Wailo, which went to their assistance.
