HUTT PARK TROTTING
Representatives of the Hutt Park Committee and the Hutt Vallsy Trotting Club met during the week-end to: new the.Hutt'Park grounds, in conneotion with the recent offer made by the club to pay £100 per year for one day's' racing, with a guarantee to keep the buildings on the Park .in good order. Mr. E.'W. Short, oh behalf of-the club, stated that it would probably cost £800 to prepare the Park for his club, and referring to the grandstand, the speaker considered it would require at least £250 to put it in anything like order. Several minor matters were discussed and settled, but a deadlock arose over j tho question of a portable or permanent fence. In order that the grounds may still be used for football, the committee suggested that a portable fence should he erected on racing days, in front of the grandstand for a distance of about 300 yards. .At tho end of the day the fence could be removed. Tho club members, however, thought that a permanent fence should be erteted, as the Trotting Association's rules were strict regarding this matter, and they were of the opinion that a fence such as the committee suggested would not conform with the-regulations. As both sides were equally firm upon the matter, no definite decision was arrived at. ' Members' of the Trotting Club pointed'out that in air probability there would bo little or no demand for football grounds for some years to come, and urged the committee to accept what was a good opportunity to secure some revenue from the Park, in the interests of the ratepayers. , •
