Last week, however, local merchants would not. quote an f.o.b. price, but were selling small quantities at £17 10s. per ton delivered. With flour' at £16 10s. per ton f.0.b., Auckland bakers have been charging sd. per loaf, and local bakers are to decide to-morrow evening whether or not they will follow suit, seeing that they are now being asked to pay £17 10s. per ton for flour.
The Hornelah, with over 600 tons of Canadian flour for Wellington; is duo at Auckland from Vancouver this week. This order was given three months ago by certain local bakers, through brokers, when local flour was selling at £13 10s. per ton. The Canadian flour will cost local bakers £15 10s. per-ton landed, but as it is all on order, there will still be bakers who will have to 'pay tho higher price. The local new season's flour will be available next month, but as crops are light, it-is rot assumed, amongst the bakers at all events, that the pric'o will recede appreciably. A well-known baker stated on Saturday that'sd. per 21b. loaf was being charged in the suburbs of Melbourne, and that the new season's ( Australian flour was of admirable quality.
